EU will impose a flat tax on small online orders

The Financial Times reported on Tuesday, citing a draft decision, that the European Union plans to impose fixed duties on billions of small parcels entering the bloc, mainly from China.

The European Commission circulated a draft decision on handling fees yesterday after pressure from member states whose customs services are flooded with 4.6 billion imported goods a year that go directly to people’s homes, the paper said.

The draft decision did not specify the level of the fee, but the newspaper, citing people familiar with the Commission’s thinking, reported that it would be around two euros ($2.25)
